Meet Joel Black — Music Video Director
Joel Black is the director and founder behind Tommirock Films, a Newcastle-based production studio working with independent artists, emerging talent and major labels across Australia.
Joel's approach to music video direction is built on visual storytelling first — every project starts with a concept, not a camera. Whether it's a high-concept narrative piece, a raw performance video, or something built for a label campaign, Joel works closely with artists to translate the feeling of a track into something you can watch on repeat.
His work spans genres from country to heavy rock, with credits including Restless Road (Sony Music), DMA'S, Hudson Rose, Vilify and Lese Majesty. Joel directs, shoots and often finishes his own projects through post — meaning the creative vision stays intact from the first treatment to the final colour grade.
Based in Newcastle, Joel and the Tommirock team travel for the right project, working with artists and labels nationally.
