What Is a Music Visualiser?

A music visualiser is a video created to accompany a song, giving listeners a visual experience without necessarily requiring a traditional music video.

It might feature animated album artwork, abstract motion graphics, atmospheric imagery, a filmed performance or a combination of creative techniques.

Visualisers are a great option for artists who want a professional video for YouTube and other platforms without the scale or budget of a full narrative music video production.

The best visualisers do more than fill the screen. They establish a mood, reinforce your artistic identity and give your release a visual world of its own.

Find the Right Visual Style for Your Music

Every track has its own personality. Your visualiser should reflect it.

Animated Artwork & Motion Graphics

Bring your existing cover artwork to life through animation, movement, textures, typography and visual effects.

This approach is ideal when you already have artwork for your release but want something more engaging than a static image. We can build on your existing design or develop a visual direction that complements it.

Cinematic Music Visualisers

Give your track a film-like visual experience through cinematic imagery, atmospheric lighting, camera movement and carefully edited footage.

Depending on the concept, this might involve filmed performance, abstract imagery, locations or a series of visual moments shaped around the music.

It's an opportunity to achieve a more crafted, cinematic result without necessarily developing a full narrative music video.

Concept-Driven Visualisers

Some tracks call for something less conventional.

We can explore distinctive visual concepts combining motion graphics, compositing, typography, imagery and other techniques to create a visual identity that feels specific to your music.

From dark and atmospheric to energetic, surreal or minimal, the approach starts with the track and the creative direction behind it.

Built for Your Music Release

A visualiser can be more than a video that accompanies your song. It can become part of the wider campaign around your release.

Depending on your requirements, we can discuss deliverables such as:

  • Full-length music visualisers for YouTube and other video platforms.
  • Animated artwork that gives your existing cover design movement.
  • Short-form promotional edits for social media.
  • Vertical video versions for platforms that support short-form content.
  • Spotify Canvas loops as an optional, separately scoped deliverable.

Deliverables are agreed before production so you know exactly what you're receiving and how the visuals can be used.

Meet The Director

Meet Joel Black

Joel Black is the director and founder behind Tommirock, a Newcastle-based production studio working with independent artists, emerging talent and major labels across Australia.

Joel's approach to music video direction is built on visual storytelling first — every project starts with a concept, not a camera. Whether it's a high-concept narrative piece, a raw performance video, or something built for a label campaign, Joel works closely with artists to translate the feeling of a track into something you can watch on repeat.

His work spans genres from heavy rock and alternative to indie, pop, country and beyond,

with credits including Restless Road (Sony Music), DMA'S, Hudson Rose, Kirsty Lee Akers, Vilify and Lese Majesty.

Joel directs, shoots and often finishes his own projects through post — meaning the creative vision stays intact from the first treatment to the final colour grade.

Based in Newcastle, Joel and the Tommirock team travel for the right project, working with artists and labels nationally.

What is the difference between

a music visualiser and a music video?

A traditional music video often involves a larger production built around a narrative, performance or detailed creative concept.

A visualiser is generally a more focused visual accompaniment to a track, often using animated artwork, motion graphics, atmospheric imagery or filmed footage without requiring a full music video production.

The distinction isn't absolute: a visualiser can still be cinematic and highly creative.

How much does a music visualiser cost?

The cost depends on the creative approach, animation complexity, use of existing artwork, filming requirements and final deliverables.

A simple animated artwork visualiser will have different requirements from a bespoke cinematic or motion-graphics production.
