Laila Michelini — The Reckless Driver

At just 14, Newcastle singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and actor Laila Michelini is already building an impressive career in music and screen.

Her second original single, The Reckless Driver, reveals another side of her artistry — combining infectious pop-indie hooks with a cinematic, nostalgic 1980s-inspired sound.

When Laila approached Tommirock to create the music video for The Reckless Driver, the goal was to create a visually engaging piece that matched the cinematic character of the track while helping establish Laila's visual identity as an emerging artist.

With the song drawing on a mix of pop, indie, R&B and folk influences, the video needed to feel youthful and energetic while still having a polished, cinematic aesthetic.

Production

Tommirock managed the production from concept through to final delivery, bringing creative development, directing, cinematography and post-production together under one roof.

The production was designed around Laila's performance and the character of the song, using cinematic framing, controlled camera movement and considered lighting to create a polished visual world around the track.

With Laila already gaining recognition for her songwriting and live performances — including support for Grammy Award-winning artist Macy Gray and selection as a Youth Patron for the inaugural Next Up Music Awards — The Reckless Driver provided an opportunity to create a visual piece that reflected the ambition of her growing career.
